It was purgatory
- A story about a group of holiday makers who are on a ferry across the channel from calais to an unknown destination
- Set in modern times or in ancient greece
- four main antagonists
- comedy/drama
- An allegory on the characters trip through purgatory to heaven or hell
- Or the characters literal trip to heaven or hell in the form of a boat dream journey
- The crew are the angels who's purpose are to decide where the passengers are going
- They do this in the form of moral questions to the passengers
- Each passenger has a morally faulted back story/life which the crew members reflect on in a series of flashbacks, stories about sea legends and pirates etc
- There are also tested by the crew in a series of decisions set by them on the ship
- The passengers are completely unaware that they are in purgatory and that they are dead
- The idea that in death like how we are in dreams we are unaware that we are dreaming
- The characters make their way through the hierachy of the crew until they get to the captain at the very end who decides where they are going
- In ends with the passengers all go to heaven
- Call in to question symbolism and names such as greece gods, christian religious symbolism
